Breeding tests
Here are listed results of performance testing of BABS bull calves at Aalestrup Breeding Testing Station in Denmark. BABS uses the acronymes 'PP' for homozygotic polled and 'Pp' for heterozygotic polled genotypes in the name of the animals - the trait is determined with DNA analyses. Aalestrup Breeding Testing Station is worldwide among the most advanced breeding testing stations for beef cattle. The test period for the male calves are the age-interval 238 to 392 days (8 to 13 months age). The male calves are weighed each four weeks, and their feed intake is automatically registered throughout the entire test period. The area of the LD muscle is measured three times during the testperiod - at 10, 11 and 12 months age. The test results are by end of the test converted into 3 indices. The breeding indices are, apart form the performance of the animals themselves, also influenced by the breeding values of their family members. Ålestrup Breeding Testing Station performs tests of around 250 male calves of different beef breeds annually.
